Located on a gateway property to West Bloomfield is Market Square, a full-service neighborhood grocer. The site for this project was a formidable challenge. With a 25-foot grade differential from side to side, the market was positioned to maximize orientation, create street presence, and arrange comfortable parking.

By carefully solving these challenges, the positive outcome was that the roof of the 10,000-square-foot market became the floor to a pair of small retail spaces situated above the market. Thus, a two-story building, each with its own street front and parking areas, emerged.

The building is thoughtfully detailed in stone and brick with a continuous cantilevered canopy over dramatically large window openings. Community space provides a comfortable outdoor social area. The result is an extraordinary example of finding opportunity within the challenge.
